NotesIn 1887, Thomas Winter, 4 (along with brother John Winter, 6) arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with a group of 117 Quarrier children accompanied by Mrs. Bilbrough Wallace and en route to the Marchmont Home, Belleville, Ontario, Canada. (In Canada, the boys were separated, but eventually found each other.)

In 1891, Thomas Winter, 9, was shown as a lodger with George A. and Sarah Carley of Wolford, Leeds and Grenville North, Ontario, Canada.

In 1901, Thomas Winter, 19, was shown as a domestic / labourer to D. B. Rochester, lumber agent, of Timiskaming, Pontiac, Quebec, Canada. His date of birth was shown as August 12, 1881, and his immigration year from Scotland as 1881.

On August 23, 1905, at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Thomas Edward Winter, 24, steel worker, born in Kelso, Scotland, to John D. Winter and (unknown) Middlemas; and Mabel Hands, 19, born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, to (as written, Thomas and Annie Winter) Thomas and Annie Hands.

In September 1910, Thomas Winter, 25, crane operator, entered into the United States through the port of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; he declared that he resided in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; that his contact in Canada was his wife, Mabel Winter, who resided at 28 Blucher Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; that his final destination was Gary, Indiana; that he was originally from Scotland; that he carried $62 on his person; that he had previously visited the United States in 1903 and 1904 when he visited Michigan; that he did not intend to remain permanently. He was described as 5 foot 7 inches in height; fair complexion, light brown hair; blue eyes. He was born in Kelso, Scotland, and immigrated to Canada in 1898 but did not know the name of the ship.

On August 24, 1915, Thomas Winter, 31, sta. engineer, entered the United States through teh port of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He declared that he resided in Steelton, Canada; that he had no relatives in Canada; and that he was going to Cleveland, Ohio, to join his wife, Mabel, who resided at 2116 East 21st Street W.

In 1920, Thomas E. Winter, 38, heater at a steel mill, was shown residing at 165 East Boulevard, Duluth, St. Louis, Minnesota, USA, in a rental home he shared with his wife, Mabel A. Winter, 31; and children: Beryl J. Winter, 13; Lawrence E. Winter, 10; and Dorothy M. Winter, 8 months. He declared that he had immigrated to the United States in 1914 and was a naturalized citizen. Winter, 43; and children: Laurence Winter, 20; and Dorothy M. Winter, 11.
