NotesIn 1907, Simon P. Harris, 14, arrived in Quebec, Canada, with a group of 262 children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On December 2, 1915, Simon Peter Harris enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 772281; Force: Army; Unit: Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario Regiment); Division: 1st Bn.) He declared that he was born in Barton, Derbyshire, England; that his next of kin was Miss Ethel McClary, a friend, who resided at 63 Murray Street, Brantford, Ontario, Canada; that his date of birth was August 15, 1892; and that he was a farmer. He was described as 5 foot 2 inches in height; medium complexion; blue eyes; and brown hair. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

In April of 1916, Simon was notified by British lawyers that, owing to deaths in the war, he is the next heir to an English Earldom. The title came through his mother who died when he was a year and a half old. The earldom, with 900 acres, was held at that time by his maternal uncle, 76 years of age. Simon had slight prospects until the war came and the heirs met their fates. He planned on returning to England after his service in the Army was complete.

Simon P Harris married in 1917 Elizabeth Joyce in Burton on Trent, England.

Private Simon P. Harris died September 27, 1918. He is buried at ONTARIO CEMETERY, SAINS-LES-MARQUION, Nord, France (Grave Reference: I. A. 8.)

The next of kin listed on his burial record was a Mrs Eliz Harris, 86 Victoria St, Burton on Trent, England, all the forms and burial notifications were sent to her.
