In 1901, Ella Woodley, 5 years of age, was boarding at the home of James and Fanny Mitchell, Denmead, Hambledon, Hampshire, England, along with one other child, Hilda Daynes, 5. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 1090; Folio: 44; Page: 4.) Her immigration report upon entering the United States en route to Canada stated her next of kin was his mother, Mrs. Woodley, who resided at 36 Nicholas Road, Brighton.

In 1911, Ella Woodley, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 116 girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Ella Woodley, 16, was shown as a domestic to Peter Griesson and family in Torbolton, Carleton, Ontario, Canada. Her date of birth was shown as May 1895 and her immigration year as 1911.

On July 31, 1918, at the Church of England, Fitzroy Harbour, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage registration was found for Ella May Woodley, 23, house maid, born in Dunmow, England, daughter of Arthur W Woodley and Rosetta Monk; and another home child, Alfred John Oliver, 22, farmer, born in Tottenham, England, son of George Oliver but mother's name "does not know, when 9 years old was left orphan and came to Canada". Both bride and groom were residents of Woodlawn, Carleton, Ontario, Canada.

K. Oliver, a descendant, stated that he "bought what is now Bowman Township for $500.00."

Alfred and Ella had 5 children: Alfred John OLIVER b: October 2 1928 in Matheson Ontario; Grace Ellen OLIVER b: February 14 1921 in Matheson Ontario; Edith May OLIVER b: October 22 1922 in Matheson Ontario; Dorothy Rosetta OLIVER b: July 10 1919 in Matheson Ontario; and Evelyn Joyce OLIVER b: March 15 1924 in Matheson Ontario.
