NotesDorothy Minifer / Minifie was admitted to Lambeth Union Schools on June 11, 1891. She had been admitted from 5 Railton Road on the application of Mrs Cunningham. Her mother, Dora, had deserted her and was supposed to be in America.

Dorothy was discharged to Barnardo's Home on August 1, 1900.

In 1900, Dorothy Minifer, 9, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 83 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. She was placed that same year with Enoch Giles in Lanark, Ontario, Canada.

September 19 1902,

Age 13, Dorothy Minifer has done very well during the past year, and Mrs Giles is much pleased with her. She is energetic and willing-healthy but recently she has been subject to a swelling on her neck. A physician perscribed for it and it is said to have improved. She has learned to cook very well since coming here. They are anxious to adopt the girl.

According to Barnardo's UPS & DOWNS with Almanac for 1902; Vol VII; JANUARY 1, 1902; No. 2, Dorothy, 12, won 2nd prize in a darning competition.

On October 6, 1910, Dorothy May Minifer was a witness, along with Samuel Edward Spinks, to the marriage of Phoebe Henshaw and William Spinks.

On July 18, 1911, at Carleton Place, Lanark, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Dorothy Minifer, 22, domestic, parents not known; and Samuel Edward Spinks, 25, laborer, born to William Spinks and Ann Barne.

Samuel Edward and Dorothy May Minifer (known sometimes as Giles after her adopted family) Spinks had at least 3 children: Edith Annie Spinks, born 1917; Leonard Spinks; and Lawrence Spinks.

Samuel Edward Spinks died at Lanark, Ontario, Canada, in 1960.
