NotesMy Grandmother was admitted to "Liverpool Sheltering Home" at age 11 with her younger sister Alice age 6. The girls and their mother were in and out of the workhouse. On the admittance papers they state that the girls we illegitimate. Mrs Ward was still married to her husband Edward Ward who left her many years ago.She found herself pregnant with her 5th child and wanted a a better life for Margaret and Alice. So the girls were sent to Canada which I believe was the best situation for them at that time. They were both at Knowlton Quebec with Mrs.Brit. Margaret was sent to live with a family in Savage Mills Quebec that family did not work out and she was sent to a Jas.Humbleton in Bethany Quebec. They had cows and she had to milk cows in the morning and night with another home child. I believe she attended some school she was with that family for six years until 1909. She was now 16 and went to visit her sister Alice in Manchester. Mr Warren sent her a rail ticket. She never returned to Canada. S he lived with the Warrens for two years then went to work for Mrs.Ramsey in Manchester. Margaret went to nursing school and became a nurse and was a talented artist.Margaret and Alice were in touch with their mother Catherine and sister Jessie in LiverpoolTheir mother was very sick and dying. After she passed sister Jessie was left alone with a family friend and Catherine wanted her to be with her sisters. After Alice died Margaret sent her sister Jessie a ticket to Boston on a ship from Liverpool. Margaret took care of her 16 year old sister even though she had never met her. Margaret married the son of the Warren's Frederick Warren . They move to Scituate Massachusetts and have two children. Margaret continues her nursing and raising her children. She works well into her 70's with blind people. She never mentioned her youth or family. All we knew is that she lived in Canada for a while on a farm. I was able to uncover all this after I started my genealogy search. She was a wonderful loving grandmother.
