On 10 Jan 1917 Stanley Moss, brother of Hugh and son of Martha Bithell and John Moss died of Lymphatic Leukaemia in the Field in France. He was buried in Fosse No. 10 Communal Cemetery Extension, Sains-en-Gohelle, Nord Pas de Calais, France. Plot: I. A. 7.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty state that Hugh died of wounds after being shot in the shoulder at Number 30 Casualty Clearing Station. His Next of Kin was Mrs. Martha Smith of Box 71 Gananoque, Ontario. He was buried in Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, Nord Pas de Calais, France. Plot: II. L. 20.

1921 Canadian Census records place the family of Martha and George Smith in Gananoque, Ontario. In residence are sons John Smith (22) and George Smith (12). The family states that they immigrated from England in 1913.

In 1934 there is a travel record for Martha and George Smith of Gananoque, Ontario going to their daughter, Mrs. Albert Lish of Los Angeles. Martha is confirmed as being 67 years of age from Hawarden, Wales, and George was 71 from Birkenhead, England. George was a Factory Worker by trade.

1940 US Census records place Martha (72) and George Smith (76) at 196 Gocing Street in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan. Lodger William J McBride was in residence.
