NotesA birth registration was found for Edward McCooey (and an identical registration was found for his twin brother, Patrick McCooey): Year of Registration: 1893; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: West Derby; County: Lancashire; Volume: 8b; Page: 397. Parents: Michael McCooey and Mary Stokes.

In 1901, Edward McCooey, 7 years of age, was residing at 1 Union Terrace, South Everton, Lancashire, England. Other family members included: Bridget McCooey, 5; Mary McCooey, 31; Michael McCooey, 32, general labourer; (twin) Patrick McCooey, 7; Thomas McCooey, 1; and, William McCooey, 3. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 3480; Folio: 190; Page: 27.)

All of the McCooey children were separated by the Catholic Welfare Agency in 1901 in Kirkdale, Liverpool, England and held at a home called St. Vincent's Orphanage. Edward, Patrick and Bridget McCooey were there until they were sent to Canada to be placed as farm workers at separate times. The twins never saw each other again once they left each other at St. Vincents Orphanage.

In 1905, Edward McCoovey, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 42 children from the Catholic Emigration Association, Coleshill, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, en route to St. George's Home, Hintonburg, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Patrick McCovey, 14, arrived on the Tunisian in 1907 with the Catholic Emigration Association; sister Bridget arrived in 1907 on the Victorian with Mrs. Birt's Liverpool Sheltering Home.)

On January 10, 1928, at St. Margarets Catholic Church, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Edward McCooey, 28, and Anne Bertha Hamelin, 28, daughter of Joseph Hamelin and Philanese Maheu.

Edward Anthony McCooey died November 15, 1967, at age 64, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. Anne Bertha Hamelin McCooey died September 25, 1970, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. They are buried in Assumption Parish Cemetery.
