In 1887, Theodore Girault, 13, arrived at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, in a group of 10 boys from Barton Regis, Bristol, England.

"From the Reports of Inspection of Pauper Children sent out to Canada made by Immigration Officers of the Dominion Government and received from the Colonial Office on the 12th December 1888.

Theodore Girault, aged 13. From parish of St. Pancras. Placed with W. O. McAnespy, Annagance, King's County. This lad, [Henry] Mitchell, and [George] Harvey are with brothers-in-law and live, say 4 to 7 miles apart, a splendid locality. Religious and industrious people; churches and school-houses in close proximity."

He declared that he resided at 164 Webster Avenue, Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA; that his date of birth was March 29, 1873; that he was an alien and born in Great Britain (England); that he was a telegrapher / order clerk at Edwar B. Smith & Co., New York, New York; that his next of kin was his wife, Bessie P. Girault, 164 Webster, Brooklyn, Kings, New York. He was described as medium height; slender build; blue eyes; light hair; and wore glasses for astigmatism.

Theodore's sister, Emily Alexanderine Girault, was not allowed to keep in touch with her brother, and it upset her to the day she died (aged 86) in 1947.
