NotesJohn A. H. Annetts had been an Australian soldier fighting in World War I. He was wounded and sent to recover at a hospital in London when he met Florence Whittington. They married a few months later. The marriage was registered in St George Hanover Square in 1915. The witnesses are listed as J.J Bourke and C.G Knott. The marriage took place in Christ Church Broadway, Westminster, London England.

Florence's husband returned to the western front. While he was absent Florence became pregnant and Raymond D Annetts was born at the General Lying Hospital in Lambeth, London, England. There is no father listed on his birth certificate. [EDITORS NOTE: The birth of a Raymond D. Annetts was registered in Jan Qtr of 1917, mothers maiden name Whittington.]

John A.H Annetts returned to Australia and was discharged as a result of his wounds. He then sought information to get his wife and child (he believed Raymond to be his at that time) to Australia because without his money Florence had no income. Florence's sister then wrote to John Annetts telling him that Florence's child was not his, but that of another soldier Florence had been living with, but who had been returned to Australia. John then chose not to bring his wife to Australia.

According to family information, on March 28, 1918, Raymond was was taken to then taken to the South Western Fever Hospital in London by a man named "James Annetts" who said the father was Albert Victor Annetts. Apparently when this man was called he said he was an Australian returning with his wife and knew nothing of a child. There is no mention of Florence.

On November 30, 1918, Raymond was admitted to Norwood Schools from Renfrew Road Institution. On March 7, 1919, he was moved to Goldie Leigh Homes.

On February 22, 1922, Raymond contracted diptheria and was sent to South Western Fever Hospital. On April 7 1922, Raymond Annetts, 5, was readmitted to Norwood Schools. He remained there until 8 Feb 1928 when he was handed over to Child Emigration Society for emigration to Kingsley Fairbridge Farm School, Pinjarra, Western Australia.

In 1928, Raymond Annetts, arrived at Pinjarra, Australia, with a group of Fairbridge children.

John Annetts returned to Australia and remarried in 1932 (no divorce from Florence Whittington was found.) When contacted, his family knew nothing of the previous marriage or of Raymond.

Raymond Annetts joined the Australian Army on April 24, 1940, at Dudinin, Western Australia. His next of kin was listed as L. Humphreys. He served as a driver for the 5th Aust Movt Cont Grp. He was discharged on November 9, 1945.

Raymond Douglas Annetts died at the age of 57 in 1974 in Perth, WA. [Registration Number: 2435/74]
