NotesMy grandfather Frank Shepherd, was an unwanted child by his mother.
He was sent to Canada in 1906 at the age of 3, and placed in the care and custody of Mary A. Crawley, of Longford Road, Halifax, NS. He was lucky to have been placed with a loving family.
He was never legally adopted but always used their last name along with his birth name. My father was his son. His children carried on the Shepherd-Crawley name, but not the grandchildren. Thats how became a Crawley.
He tried to find out information about his mother/family in Birmingham, in the 1920's, with no success, then his children tried again, in the 1970-80's, again with no success. I have been doing it for about 20 years off and on.
I would like to know what happened to his mother Clara Shepherd, who gave him up to the Salvation Army, who sent him to the Middlemore Homes, Middlemore Homes sent him to Canada.
