In 1905, F. Alderton, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 433 Barnardo children (boys to Toronto, Ontario, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and girls to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.) There were nine adults on the end of the list who were travelling with the group.

On August 12, 1915, at Regina, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Frederick Alderton, 20, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk, England; that his next of kin was his father, Frederick Alderton, who resided at Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk, England; that he was born April 30th, 1895; that he was a farm labourer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 9-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; steel grey eyes; fair hair. He was a member of the Church of England.

Frederick Alderton died April 18, 1916, in Belgium. He is bured at the Menin Road South Military Cemetery. (Grave Ref. No. I. H. 28.)
