James son of Joseph (labourer) and Ellen of 120 Ossulton Street was baptised 18 Sep 1873 in the Parish of Christ Church Somerstown in the County of Middlesex in the year One thousand eight hundred and seventy three.

In 1890, James Clarke, 16, arrived at Portland, Maine, US, along with a group of 113 children who disembarked at Portland. (More children in the same party disembarked at Halifax.)

In 1901, James Clarke, 27, was shown as a domestic / porter, residing at a hotel managed by Adam Hess in Palmerston, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth was shown as August 18, 1873, and his immigration year as 1890.

On July 21, 1904, in Wellington, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between James Clark, 30, widower, Ry. employ, born in England, son of Joseph Clark and Hellin Day; and Hannah [Steadman] Kirschbaum, 35, widow, born in Ontario, daughter of Harry Steadman and Margaret Moore.

On December 2, 1915, James Clarke enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Palmerston, Ontario; that he was born in London, England; that his next of kin was his wife, Hannah Clarke, who resided at Palmerston, Ontario; that his date of birth was August 18 1873; and that he was a labourer. He was described as 5 foot 1 inch in height; medium complexion; blue eyes; and brown hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith.


James Clarke died in Toronto, Canada in 1968. Buried Bethesda Cemetery, We????
