On the 1881 English Census she is living in Dr. Barnardo's Village Home For Orphan Neglect & Destitute Girls in Barking Essex. Her birth location is given as Plymouth.

In 1884, K. Shaw, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 121 Barnardo children.

On April 28, 1889, at Barnardo Home, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Kate Shaw, 18, servant, died of chronic inflammation of the kidneys, one year duration. Kate is buried at Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, along with 46 other Barnardo children who were a part of Hazlebrae House.
