On March 9 1902, Lena Bates was baptised at Walham Green, daughter of Charles Challis Bates (deceased) and wife Clara, of 20 Darlan? Road, 'father was a Tailor'

On November 1, 1914, Lena Bates, 13, passed away at Nicholls Hospital, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, of typhoid fever, 24 days duration, and heart failure. She had been a part of Hazlebrae-Barnardo Home, Peterborough Ontario, Canada. Lena Bates is buried in Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough, Canada. She is buried along with 46 other children who passed away at Hazlebrae House.
