Clara Lloyd was admitted to Norwood Schools, Lambeth Parish, on September 23, 1896, along with her sister, Florence Lloyd, after their father deserted the family. A warrant was issued for him on October 24, 1896. Her brother, Arthur Lloyd, was admitted on October 15, 1896. Their older brother Alfred David J. Lloyd, was residing with Mrs. Hawkins, 6 Rosendale Road, Norwood, London, England. Florence was sent to service with Mrs. Mortimer Rooke, 5 Eccleston Houses, St. Georges Road, SW, London, England, on June 30, 1899. Clara and Arthur Lloyd were discharged on August 1, 1900, to Dr. Barnardo's Homes.
In 1900, Clara Lloyd, 12 (along with brother, Arthur Lloyd, 11), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of Barnardo children consisting of 83 girls and 101 boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
