Commonwealth War Graves Registers states that Ernest was Killed in Action. He was buried in Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, Albert, Somme, Picardie, France. Plot: I. P. 39.

Newspaper articles from the Renfrew Mercury state that Private Ernest Sullivan, a "Home" boy who had been working for Alexander Stuart of Wilberforce had been Killed in Action and that he served with the 59th Battalion.
