Father: John Glendenning and Phoebe Carter, married 1891 at St. Saviour, Southwark, London, England.

Arthur, William, John and Alice Glendenning were admitted to Norwood School, Lambeth Union, on December 7, 1893. Their father, John Glendenning, was admitted to the Infirmary. Their aunt was residing at 19 Darwin Street, Old Kent Road. John Glendenning believed that his wife was residing at 28 Victoria (?) Street, but did not know for certain.

Arthur aged 4 and brother John aged 6 were admitted on October 24, 1894, to Norwood Schools from 'New School', until 19 June 1897 when they were returned to the Workhouse. They went back to the School on 21 June 1897. On 12 August 1897, the children were discharged to the Workhouse.

William Glendenning was sent to the training ship Exmouth on May 3, 1899.

On Feb 7 1900, Arthur Glendenning was re-admitted to Norwood School from the School Infirmary, his next of kin was given as father, deceased.

Alice Glendenning was sent to service with Mrs. Pullen, Woodland Hall, Upper Norwood, on January 8, 1903. John Glendenning enlisted in the 3rd Dragoon Guards on March 9, 1904.

Arthur Glendenning was discharged to Mrs. MacPherson on August 24, 1904, for emigration.

In 1904, Arthur Glendenning, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 31 MacPherson children en route to Mr. Merry at Stratford, Ontario, Canada.

Arthur was placed but was returned to the Home in November of 1904 because he was "too small."

Arthur returned to England and joined the British armed forces. He received the Victory Medal; the British Medal; and the British Star medal for his participation in World War I in the Theater of France.
