Jessie Gregg and her brothers, Percy Gregg and Ernest Gregg, were admitted to Norwood School, Lambeth Union, on August 12, 1897. Both of their parents were dead. An older sister Lily was residing at the "Lord High Admiral", Vauxhall Bidge Road, and a brother, Horatio Gregg, was residing at 33 Plantagenet Street, Cardiff (he came to visit his remaining siblings on May 29, 1901.)

In 1900, Jessie D. Gregg, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 83 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Ernest was enlisted in the Band of the 3rd Battalion, Kings Own. Percy was discharged to Barnardo Home on June 12, 1901.

Jessie was placed with the Gossage family of York, Ontario, Canada.

In Ups and Downs (Double Number) VOL. VIII SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER, 1902 No. 4, it was reported that "Jessie Gregg writes very happily and brightly of her home."

March 2 1903, with Joseph Wood, Elm Creek, Manitoba,

Age 14, a nice comfortable home, employed at general housework, excellent health-a fine healthy looking girl. Attends Presbytarian Church-has been to Public School for a month this winter. Character good-a little saucy at times, Mr Wood says but otherwise a first rate girl. Terms-had no agreement with the Barnardo Home, Mrs Wood says, she is keeping her for her clothing and food. The girl is healthy, smart and intelligent, such a girl as, at her years, could easily earn good wages. She came to Mrs Wood in June 1901, and has been with the family ever since, and is quite satisfied, she says, to remain with Mrs Wood.
