Notes Family appears in 1891 census in Sibford Gower Oxfordshire. Father died 1892 according to family bible , Mother unable to keep 3 sons. Ernest to Barnados, other brothers to Waifs & Strays home or to relative. Ernest appears in passenger lists, 1901 census on Edwards Farm, and Barnados Ups & Downs magazine 1901 confirming his placement in Lambton County. Currently no trace subsequently until marriage in 1919 to Verna Jane Hornick. However, dates and information on marriage certificate and 1921 census are inconsistent, and it is obituary in Dresden Times that confirms he is a Home Child, and most likely the same person as 1901 child. Likely he is unaware of true DOB or deliberately reducing age as he is marrying pregnant woman 9 years junior. Was in touch with one brother, my grandfather circa 1910 - 1915 sending photograph from Canada, but contact lost due to upheaval of WW1. Neither of the other brothers was sent to Canada. Both served in UK forces in WW1. My grandfather in 1st/23rd London Regiment (Festubert, Loos, Vimy Ridge, Somme, Messines) and William George MIA 9/4/1918 Estaires serving with 13th Battalion East Surrey Regiment. Their mother Kate Green nee Herbert ended up living with my Grandfather in the 1920s until her death..
Update - I have now exchanged photographs with the Great Great Neice of Ernest Green and our pictures confirm that he is indeed the same person described in this record and in the notes sections above despite the inconsistencies in the records. Family information suggests he ran away at some point from his initial placement. But otherwise confirmation that he married in 1919 and farmed in Croton near Dresden Ontario until his death in 1955. There were no surviving children (two daughters died in infancy) but his widow lived until the 1970s initially on the farm and subsequently in Dresden.
