The Bishop children where all Baptized on November, 14 1909, at St. Monica's Priory, Hoxton, London, England. The family was then living at 49 West Moreland Place, London, England.

In 1901, James Bishop, 2 years of age, was shown residing at 12 St. Thomas Place, St. Luke Old Street, London, England. Other family members included: John Bishop, 5; Mary Bishop, 10 months; Rebecca Bishop, 25; and William Bishop, 27, horsekeeper. In 1914, James Bishop, 15, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 38 children en route to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

On March 20, 1916, James Bishop, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at La Salette, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in London, England; that his next of kin was his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Bishop, who resided at 47 Westmoreland Place, London, E.C., England; that he was a farmer; that he was not married; and that he had previously served in the 39th Regt. He was described as 5 foot 2 inches in height; ruddy complexion; brown eyes; reddish brown hair.

On July 30, 1919, at the Village of Dehli, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between James Bishop, 21, laborer, born in England to William Bishop and Rebecca Bowen; and Myrtle Reece, 22, born in Windham Township, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, to Collin Reece and Marcie Mudge.
