NotesWe always heard that John's mother, Mary Catley, died in a flu epidemic. We don't know where he was between the time his mother died and he was put on the ship to come to Canada. We never knew his father's name until recently, Frederick Pocock.

In 1893, John Catley arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 12 children accompanied by Mrs. Walton and en route to Belleville, Ontario, Canada.

John (Jack) married Bertha Grapentine Kellert Broski in 1916 in North Dakota. They were married until her death 10 Feb 1947. 17 Nov 1954 he married Gladys Hardesty Prohl. They were married until his death in 1972
When he got to Canada he was sent to Marchmont Home in Belleville, Ontario. He was indentured to an M H Johnson on Oct 14, 1893. They later brought him back to Marchmont to adopt him as their son. The indentured form was signed by a Jane Ann Johnson. The Johnson's live in Madoc, Ontario.

Later in life he came to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. He changed his name to John Catley Johnstone. Most everyone knew him as Jack. He married and had a son. He farmed in North Dakota for a time before moving his family to Washington State. Eventually settling in the Bellingham, Washington area.
