NotesEdith Margaret Shambley was born Jan 21, 1890 to Henry Charles Shamley and Augusta Jessica Aust. The 1891 Census shows Edith living with her grandmother, mother, her brother Charles (born in 1893), two aunts and an uncle (George Briggs, 1896 ).Augusta Jessica died in 1904 and George Briggs was unable to support the three children so they were placed in the Hackney Union workhouse. All the children took the surname Briggs. All the children were admitted to the Annie McPherson Homes and came as BHC to Canada: Charles in 1905, George in 1908 and Edith (Maud) in 1909.

In 1911, Maud Briggs, 20, is shown as a domestic in Stratford City Hospital, Stratford, Perth, Ontario, Canada.
In 1913 Edith Shamley married Benjamin St John of Ridgetown ON
