NotesA birth registration was found for Harry Banks: Mother's Maiden Name: Lambourne; Date: Oct-Nov-Dec 1915; District: Newhaven; County: Sussex; Volume: 2b; Page: 261. Parents: Charles Henry Banks and Ada Lambourne, married 1908, at Sevenoaks, Kent, England.

Ada Banks, a 34 year old widow, sailed on the Carmania in 1920 from Liverpool. She was a widow who intended to do domestic work. She paid for her own passage and was heading to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where she had a sister, Mrs. Adams, and brother-in-law, 514 Heatley Avenue. Ada was born in Seaford, Sussex, and could read and write. She was 5ft 4in tall, had medium complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair and a mole on the right side of the neck. Her nearest relative in England was her father-in-law Albert Banks.

In 1923, Harry Banks, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of Barnardo children: 149 boys to Toronto, Ontario, and 70 girls to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. He declared that he was born in Sussex; that he was going to Canada to do farm work; that his destination was to his friend, Mr. John W. Hobday, 538 Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and that his nearest relative was Dr. Barnardo's Homes, 18/26 Stepney Causeway, E. 1., London, England.

[EDITORS NOTE: Sisters, Ivy Melisa Banks and Hilda Pearl Banks, were sent by Barnardos to be reunited with their mother (see their individual database listings). The last sibling, Albert Banks, 14, arrived at St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, unaccompanied, and en route to his mother, Mrs. May, who was residing at 747, 14th Avenue East, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A juvenile inspector reported that "he has secured a position with a view to learning the boot-making and shoe repairing trade with a friend of the family who has a small business of this kind in N. Vancouver."]

Harry was sent by Barnardo's "to be restored to his mother" Mrs T. K. [Thomas Kenzie] May in Vancouver. Harry was reported to be living in a good home with his mother and stepfather "who is a conductor for the BC Electric Railway.... he is a bright boy". [EDITORS NOTE: Ada Banks married Thomas May on June 7, 1922, at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.]
