NotesIn 1891, William Redgrave, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 117 Barnardo children [Albert, William and Frederick Redgrave were actually sent by Rev. William J. Pady, but transported as part of the Barnardos group] accompanied by Mr. Owen and en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

William was first placed with Mr. Todd, St. James, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

[Canadian Soldiers of the South African War (1899 - 1902)] On April 25, 1902, William Redgrave, 21, enlisted in the Canadian Mounted Rifles. He declared that he did not know the names of any next of kin; that he was a farmer; that he was not married; that he was born in Yarmouth, Norfolkshire, England. He was described as 5 foot 4-1/4 inches in height; dark complexion; blue eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England. His attestation stated he was a fair rider and a fair shot and therefore qualified to serve. He had good muscular development; good intelligence; sanguine temperament; and was generally healthy.

On March 9, 1916, at Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada, William Redgrave, 32, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at 325 Bay Street, Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Yarmouth, England; that his next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Mary Redgrave, who resided at 325 Bay Street, Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada; that his date of birth was June 28, 1883; that he was a locomotive fireman; and that he had previously served for 9 months in the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles in South Africa. He was described as 5 foot 5-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; grey eyes; light brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England.
