George was placed with Chauncey and Naomi Dawdy, Pelham, Ontario, Canada. Chauncey died in 1925 (arterio sclerosis) and at the time is listed as a grain farmer. His father's name on the death register is James Dawdy. Chauncey is buried in the Dawdy Cemetery.

On May 30, 1917, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, George Edward Henshaw, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided c/o Peter Dick, RR #1, Cheltenham, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Birmingham, England; that his next of kin was his mother, Ellen Henshaw, who resided at Plymouth Hill Common, Near Birmingham, Snifnack, Salop, England; that his date of birth was March 27, 1899; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 3 inches in height; medium complexion; blue eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith. He had a mole in the front of his neck; a scar on front of his neck; mole on the right side of his back; and 4 small scars on his centre back.

On October 21, 1922, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between George Henshaw, 22, moulder, born in England to Alfred Brindley Henshaw and Helen Price; and Beatrice [Daisy] Fare, 22, born in England to Walter Gerald Fare and Ellen Baker.
