John Myson was born 03 Jun 1883 in Mildenhall, Suffolk, England. His parents were John and Mary (Morley) Myson who had married during the third quarter of 1880 in Mildenhall. By the 1891 England census for Mildenhall, Mary was listed as a widow, "living on relief (Guardians)". Household members were her father, a widower also living on relief, and two children, John, age 7, and sister Emily, age 5. With the family was a neice, Mary Ann Carter who was working as a domestic servant. John's mother Mary died during the second quarter of 1891 and by the 14th of Dec of the same year, John was residing in one of Dr Barnardo's residences/schools, the Cranbrook Road School in Tower Hamlets. As a member of Doctor Barnardo's party of older boys, aboard the Tunisian, John sailed for Canada on 19 Jul 1900. His destination was Russell, Manitoba where Barnardo had a training farm. For a wage, the boys were to work on the farm for a year or until a placement could be found, usually within 8 months. By the 1901 Canada census, John was working as a hired hand with the Garrioch family that had a farm in/near Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. On 17 Feb 1909, John married Bryda Morrison in Winnipeg, Manitoba. (Bryda was found on an earlier List or Manifest of Aliens Applying for Admission, Port of Winnipeg for April of 1908, occupation given as nurse, living in Portage La Prairie. Her destination was given as Lafayette, Maine.) Their first child, John, was born 05 Nov 1910 in Portage La Prairie but he only lived for 7 days. He is buried in Hillside Cemtery in Portage. On the 1911 Canada census, John and Bryda were living at 522 Garland Street North in Portage la Prairie. John's occupation was given as teamster. Bryda was also found listed as a nurse in the Home for Incurables. A second child, Hugh John was born 14 Jun 1912, also in Portage. By 1915 the family was living in Medicine Hat, Alberta. At some point during 1915, a daughter Florence was born.

John Myson enlisted on 14 May 1915 in Calgary, Alberta. By the 1916 Canada census, the family had moved to Calgary and were residing at 1313 3rd Street, John's occupation given as military. With the 82nd Battalion, John sailed for England aboard the SS Empress of Britain on 20 May 1916. Once overseas, he was transferred to the 54th Battalion. Just six months later, on 18 Nov 1916 John was reported as killed in action in the attack north of Courcelette. From the War Diary of the 54th Battalion, 18 November 1916: "During the six days the Battalion was in the line the weather conditions were very trying, four days of very cold weather being followed by snow and rain. Total casualties -: 2 offc. killed 11 wounded. 42 OR killed 160 wounded 23 missing." Inscribed on the ramparts of the Vimy Memorial are the names of over 11,000 Canadian soldiers who were posted as 'missing, presumed dead' in France; John Myson's name is among them.

John Myson's name is included on the Lake of the Woods Milling Company plaque housed in the Keewatin, Ontario Legion: at some point he must have worked for the company in its branches in Portage La Prairie and/or Medicine Hat.

John's wife Bryda never remarried. She was found on a border crossing for Eastport, Idaho, United States on 10 Jun 1929 with children Hugh and Florence, home given as Calgary, destination, Vancouver. Bryda died in Olds, Alberta in 1957. According to a family tree on ancestry.ca, Hugh married Lorna Gertrude and they had one child Howard John Myson. Hugh died 04 Feb 2000, Lorna on 25 Nov 2010, both in Sundre, Alberta. Their son Howard died 24 Jul 2011 in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The only mention found for Florence was from the Calgary Herald that she was involved in a vehicular accident in 1920 at age 6. John's sister Emily married James Henry King during the third quarter of 1906 in Mildenhall, Suffolk, and the 1911 England census saw the family living at 26 St Marys Row, Thetford, Norfolk where James was working as a bargeman for a chemical manufacturer. Emily and James had one child listed on the census: John King, born in Thetford.
