NotesHarold J. Broomfield arrived in Australia in a group of 53 Barnardo children from Stepney Causeway, London, accompanied by Matron Hodgetts and Mr John Gregg. One boy was put ashore at Colombo with a septic leg and another (William RALPH) stayed in Western Australia; 51 went on to Sydney.

Possibly the Harold John Robert BROOMFIELD, station hand, who died in Pallamallawa, NSW as a result of an accident in March 1939. According to newspaper reports of the inquest, Harold had informed his employer that he was an orphan boy, his parents having died soon after they had arrived in Australia from England. He had also stated that he had a brother living in England and an aunt in Tasmania, but he (witness) did not know their names or addresses.

In May 1939, Barnardo's Homes Sydney placed an advertisement in the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper asking for information about the whereabouts of Harold Broomfield (22) who arrived 21/7/1930.
