NotesAlbert Stevens was admitted to the Lambeth Union Schools on October 25, 1895. His father had deserted the family. His mother, Ann, was discharged from Workhouse in July, 1896, with 2 of her children, Annie and Edward, and she went to her friends in Wales. There was a warrant issued for his father.

Albert was discharged to Barnardo's Home on August 1, 1900.

Albert Stevens, 12, arrived in Quebec, Canada, with 101 boys en route to Toronto, Canada.

Feb 7 1903 with D R Clement, farmer, Fairmede, Assiniboia,

Age 16, a first class brick farm house, well finished and furnished, employed at chores, health good, has only been at church once and has not attended school at all. He reads and writes remarkably well, character-Mr Clement describes the boy as ill-natured and untruthful, and has to be constantly to do his customary work, but is not a bad worker. Terms-Four years agreement at $10, $20, $30 and $40 per annum respectively. In a private conversation with the boy he expressed great dissatisfaction with his place and said he would not stay, that Mr Clement is never satisfied and he complains of his feet being constantly wet through insufficient rubbers. Mr Clement says this is the fault of his own carelessness. I think the boy is self willed and does not care for farming, but he is certainly a quick witted, smart lad who might have more ambition in some other employment
