In 1901, Edith Jemima Baker, 13, was shown as an inmate residing at Dr. Barnardos Home in Barkingside and Ilford, Essex, England. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 1652; Folio: 87; Page: 14.)

In 1902, Edith Baker, 14, arrived at Boston, Massachusetts, USA, along with a large party of about 400 children en route to Toronto and Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Her brother, A(lfred) A(ugustus) Baker arrived previously in 1898 on the Labrador with Barnardos.

Edith worked in Ontario for a while and then went to live in Manitoba with her sister, Amy Baker Dendy.

On October 10, 1905, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zarn in Ewart, Manitoba, Canada, Edith Jemima Baker married John Henry Zarn.

On November 10, 1936, Edith Zarn was struck by a truck driven by Emanuel Manchulenko while pushing a cart along Selkirk avenue. She suffered a concussion, and serious head and back injuries. (Winnipeg Free Press, November 13, 1936)

Edith and John Zarn had eight children: Edith Margaret Zarn; Dorothy Louise Zarn; Rose Ethel Zarn; Arthur John Zarn, born March 26, 1909 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada; Gladys Mary Zarn, June 30, 1912; Wilfred James Zarn, born March 23, 1914 in Ewart, Manitoba, Canada; Mary Florence Zarn, born March 5, 1916 in Rapid City, Manitoba, Canada; and Evelyn Alice Zarn (married Arthur Quinn), born December 14, 1920, in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, and who died November 4, 1943 at her home in Transcona, Manitoba, Canada. She was buried in Elmwood Cemetery.

Edith Jemima Baker Zarn died March 13, 1957, aged 69 years, in the National Institute of the Blind Residence, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her husband, John Henry Zarn, died at Winnipeg General Hospital, on August 15, 1942. They are buried in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
