NotesOn July 4 1895, George Althorpe, 9, deserted, admitted to Stepney Union from 'Forest Gate' then discharged on 17 November 1898 to Hanwell School.

On 6th April 1900, George Allthorpe, 15, re-admitted to Stepney Union Workhouse, Church of England, he was a deserted child with no next of kin. He was handed over to Dr Barnardo's care on 27 March 1902, reason for discharge 'to Canada'

In 1902, George Althorpe, 15, arrived at Portland, Maine, USA, in a group of 15 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

A marriage was registered between George Althorpe and Alice Bridgen in Aston, Warwickshire, England in 1915. (Volume 6d; page 1562).

On June 13, 1917, at London, Ontario, Canada, George Althorpe, 38 [sic], joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Colchester, Essex, England; that his next of kin was his wife, Alice E. Althorpe, who resided at 1, Burton Terrace, Bolton Road, Smallheath, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; that he was a harness maker; and that he had previously served for 2 years in the D.A.C. (Can. Fld. Art.).

On November 27, 1919, Private George Althorpe returned to Canada after serving in the 1.C.D. His next of kin was listed as his wife, who resided at 25 Hillingdon Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On January 29, 1920, George Althorpe, 38, returned to the United Kingdom on the ship Empress of France. He declared that his address while in the UK was to be Barton Terrace, Bolton Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; and that he was a farmer.

He sailed back to Canada on the ship Corsican on March 23, 1920. He declared that he was born in Colchester, England; that he was a harness maker; that he resided at 25 Hillingwood Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; that he had immigration through Portland, Maine, USA in April, 1902.

On December 10, 1921, George Althorpe, 36, a sadler/harness [maker], died of phthisis pulmonalis, duration 1 week, at Toronto Free Hospital, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth was shown as June 2, 1885. He had been born in Sussex, England, and his parents had died when he was young. George Althorpe was buried in Prospect Cemetery.

Alice Ellen Bridgen remarried Albert Bayley on June 1, 1923, in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada.
