In 1889, Mabel Grant, 14, arrived in Quebec, Canada, along with 16 girls, from Mrs. Blaikie's Emigration House, 6 Lauriston Lane, Edinburgh, Scotland, en route to Mr. Wallace, Belleville, Ontario, Canada. It is not known why, but Mabel's sister Effie Grant apparently had arranged the emigration.
On November 8, 1894, at Belleville Methodist Church, Hastings, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Mabel Grant and another home child, (John) Stephen Geoghan (aka Gagan).
Their first child, Laura Maud, was born in Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, in 1896. The family left Canada in 1900 and went to Scotland.

Mabel Grant Gagan died in August 25, 1941 in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Stephen Geoghan/Gagan died January 1, 1954 in Scotland.
