In 1887, William Wooding, 15 (along with brother, Arthur Wooding, 13), arrived at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, in a group of 10 boys from Barton Regis, Bristol, England.

Walter Wooding (not William), aged 13. From parish of St. Pancras. Placed with Abraham Tabor, Handford Brook, King's County.?A fine looking lad; well, and has been, except for a slight cold. Has a good home; likes the country and people very much, and says he has good reason to say so. His master likes the lad so well would not part with him. Showed me large tract of land which he owned, and said, in the presence of the lad, if he stayed he would own a good portion of it."
