NotesIn 1887, John Clancey, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 18 young persons sent by Croydon Union, Surrey, England, accompanied by Rev. R. F. Winter and en route to various places.

John Clancy, aged 17. From Barton Kegis Union. Placed with Captain Bamford Spragge, July 15th, 1883 (age then put at 14), Springfield, King's County, N.B.? l called at Captain Spragge's, found that he had lived with him on the farm 2 1/2 years, left, and hired with Harvey Noble a few months; left and hired with George Wetmore, and worked for him a short time; left and went to Mr. Noble again. These all of Springfield. Left Mr. Noble again, induced by high wages offering for sailors in the coasting trade, and is now on board the schooner "Sunbeam" plying between Bel isle Bay and Rockland, Maine, United States. Will go to farming again when river navigation closes. He has grown quite stout, now calls himself 18 years old, judges himself a man. He is, too, well able to take care of himself; is quite independent."
