Notes In 1883, Maria Bates, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 126 children en route to various destinations.
"Report of Mr. John Smith, Government Immigration Agent at Hamilton, Ontario, on girls brought out from the West Derby and State Workhouses by Miss Rye as of December 18, 1884.
Marie Bates, 11. With David Dunn, Forks Eoad, Lot 37, Con. 5, Reports on Warnfleet. This girl partially deaf and blind of one eye, sullen temper, weak intellect, untruthful and disobedient. Notice having been given to return her to the home.
Mr. Dunn is a very respectable farmer and the home very desirable.
The girl has been attending a Protestant Sunday school and church, and every care has been taken with her.
