1911 English Census record for James Rothwell places him as a Boarder in the household of Charlotte Fitch, Born in 1895 in Croydon, Surrey, he's in Nympsfield, Gloucestershire, England was a Plumber's assistant. There are two younger boys in residence, Charles McDonald and Philip Wills, neither of apparent relation.

Attestation papers signed 24 Feb 1915 in Ottawa, Ontario. James Henry Joseph Rothwell was born 23 Jan 1895 in Croydon, Surrey, England. His occupation was a Painter. His Next of Kin was Miss Mary Rothwell, sister, of Lonne House, Grosvenor Place, Margate, England but it was scratched out and replaced with Mrs. Ellen Glaze, sister, of 54 Clarendon Road, West Cryodon, Surrey, England. 5'5 1/4" in height with hazel eyes and brown hair, 1/2 inch scar by outter right eye. Religion was listed as Roman Catholic.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers state James was Killed in Action. Information was also included for Next of Kin, brother John Rothwell of 44 Elizabeth and then 105 Lake Street, St. Catherines, Ontario. Information was returned as undelivered and then resent to sister, Mrs. E. Glaze of 16 Venus Road, Well Hall, Eltham South, London, England. His final resting place unknown, his name is listed on the Vimy Memorial in Vimy, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
