NotesJohn was born 22 September 1887 in Burton upon Trent, Staffs. England. John was born out of wedlock, son of Catherine Flynn and Robert Bouchier. So only Flynn appears on his birth certificate. He moved to Stoke-on-Trent very young; his mother died of phthisis in August 1890 in Stoke-on-Trent. We find John on the 1891 census inmate in the Stoke-on-Trent workhouse, then aged 3 years old.

Sent by Stoke upon Trent Union, placed with D Daoust, farmer,Isle Perrot, Vaudreuil, Quebec. Inspection on 23 Feb 1897.

Age about 9, good home, employed at general work around the house, health good, attends church regularly, no schooling, character good, terms-board and clothing. Gives satisfaction.
