NotesIn 1886, Alice Johnson, 6, arrived in Canada in care of Miss Charlotte Alexander.

Prior to late 1887, Alice was placed with a Mr & Mrs Featherstone of Arn. In December, 1887, Alice was placed with Mr & Mrs Isaac Coyne of Ingersol, but they gave her back in June, 1888. Alice was placed with Dr. & Mrs D.W. Carrol of Ingersol for 2 months, until August, 1890, when they refused her. Alice stayed with the Thomas Hambly family on their farm for seven months. Mrs Hambly died. Then Alice was sent to Mrs W Hayward of Kenilworth for 2 weeks. Early in August, 1891, Alice went to Mrs Richard Rivers of Springhill Farm near Walkerton. Mrs. Rivers wrote to Miss Alexander that, "The work was not heavy as much as continuous dish washing, setting tables, peeling potates, dusting, feeding chickens and being feet for my stepdaughter who had lately lost a limb." Mrs Rivers died in 1892 and her stepdaughter wrote that Alice had "been very well except for an occasional bilious attack." She was 12 by then the rest is unknown.
