On December 18, 1915, Aram Raphael enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at Newcomers Mn., Peter Street, Toronto, Canada; that his next of kin was his mother, Miriam Raphael, c/o Fegan's Homes, 295 George Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; that he born March 5, 1895; and that his occupation was farming. It was reported by the The Toronto Star , on Saturday, November 24, 1917 (p. 16), that:

"Pte Aran Raphael, 295 George St appears in today's list of casualties as gassed. He was a ward of the Fegan's Boys Home and was engaged in farming at Weston prior to enlistment about two years ago. He went overseas with Col. Kingsmills battalion. He is 20 years old and came to Canada about 7 years ago from England."

In January, 1920, Aram Raphael crossed into the United States through Niagra Falls, New York. He stated he was 23 years of age; a farm laborer; and Armenian; that he lived in Toronto; had no living relatives in Canada; and his final destination was Providence, Rhode Island. He paid his fare by himself; had $250 with him; and that he intended an indefinite visit with his aunt, Mary Mooradkhian, who resided at 1706 Warwood Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island.
