In 1887, Walter Hanratty, 11 (along with sister, Elizabeth Hanratty, 9, and brother George Hanratty, 12), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 96 children from the Catholic Children Protection Society, Liverpool, England, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Lacy, and en route to Hotel Dieu, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

He had 5 vaccination scars on his left arm and a scar on his little finger on the right hand.
