In 1887, James Dolan, 9 (along with brother, Patrick Dolan, 13), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 96 children from Catholic Children Protection Society, Liverpool, England, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Lacy, and en route to Hotel Dieu, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

"Copy of Reports of Inspection of Pauper Children sent out to Canada made by Immigration Officers of the Dominion Government and received from the Colonial Office on the 12th December 1888.

Report of Mr. W. J. Wills, Government Immigration Agent at Ottawa.

James Dolan, aged 9. From parish of Liverpool. Placed with James Egan, Westport P.O., Lot 18 in 2nd Con., N. Crosby Tp.?Ran away after having been chastised for breaking through or into a cupboard where apples were kept. Egan does not know where he is; advised Egan to send for the lad and return him to Rev. Father Twohey, of Westport."
