Notes In 1885, Nicholas Cleary, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 136 children from the Catholic Protection Society, Liverpool, England, accompanied by Richard Yates with a probable destination to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Nicholas Cleary, aged 14. From parish of Liverpool. Placed with Patrick Mullen, 7th Con., Tyendinaga Tp., Read P.O.?Has become lame, cannot account for it, disobedient and impertinent, not attending school, intend returning him to 'Hotel Dieu.'"
