NotesIn 1882, Kate Newland, 16, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 30 children from the Catholic Protective Society of Liverpool, England.

On May 13, 1886, at Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Catherine Newland, 22, born in England to Thomas Newland and Mary Smith; and Augustin Bruyere, 25, born in Gracefield, Quebec, Canada, to Augustin Bruyere and Eleonore Marcellin.

Augustin and Catherine Newland Bruyere had at least one child: Joseph Auguste Bruyere, born March 25, 1887, in Carleton, Ontario, Canada.

Augustin Bruyere died on March 17, 1894, at the Protestant Hospital in Carleton, Ontario, Canada, of pleurisy (also known as pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleura, the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs), 10 days duration.

In 1896, Catherine Briere (widow of August), was shown residing at 49 St. Andrew, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

In 1897, Catherine Briere (widow of August) is shown residing with Miss Kate Briere, bndr for Ptg. Bureau, at the same address.

On July 27, 1901, at Ottawa, Carleton, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Kate Briere, 35, widow, born in London, England, to Philip Newland and Margaret S. Cavana; and Hill Bowers, 35, plumber, born in Napanee, Ontario, Canada, to Edward Bowers and Elizabeth Fritz.
