Notes[POSSIBLE MATCH] In 1871, Joseph Gore, 5 years of age, was residing at Greenfield Lane Cottage, Litherland, Lancashire, England. Other family members included: Eleanor Gore, 30, dressmaker; Thomas Gore, 28, plasterer; and Thomas Gore, 4 months. (Source: 1871 Census of England; Class: RG10; Piece: 3838; Folio: 51; Page: 33; GSU roll: 841922.)

Joseph was admitted to the Home on January 1880. His father was noted as Thomas Gore, deceased, of 72 Fearnside St, Earle Road, Astley Green near Manchester and that he worked as a labourer for a Thomas Harrison of Astley Green. Joseph's mother had asked Liverpool Sheltering Home to help Joseph go to Canada.

In 1880, Joseph Gore, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 66 children en route to Knowlton, Quebec, Canada.

Joseph was first placed with a farmer by the name of Wells. Later he was moved to the Hunt farm at Gilmans Corners, West Brome where he was treated as family. As an adult, he would often bring his children to visit their "foster uncles" in West Brome.

On his marriage certificate (to Esther Elizabeth Pyle, born 1862 in Lambeth, London, England. She came to Canada as a nursemaid to a British officer's family in Halifax and was then moved to Montreal) dated April 30, 1895 in Montreal, Canada, he stated that his father was Samuel Gore and his mother was Margaret, last name erased.

In 1901, Joseph Gore, 32, gardener, is shown residing at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, along with his wife, Hester Gore, 29; and children: L. Frank Gore, 5; Philomenie Gore, 3; Gilbert L. Gore, 1. Joseph's date of birth is shown as May 5, 1868, and his immigration year as 1880.

In 1911, Joseph Gore, 42, storeman / janitor, was shown residing at 44 St. Catherines, St Antoine, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, along with his wife, Ester Gore, 40; and children: Frances Gore, 15, parcel tier(?) for store; Aimy Gore, 1-2/12; Rawson Gore, 11; and lodgers: Mary Jones, 58; Geo Nichol, 39. Joseph's date of birth is shown as May 1869 and his immigration year as 1880.
