NotesGabriel Evans is my Great-Grandfather. I have just discovered this information from researching my family tree. He was born Gabriel Evans 12 Jan 1870 in Liverpool, England. He was sent to Halifax, Canada on board the Ship Ontario with Mrs Birt's Party from the Liverpool Sheltering Home in April 1874. He can next be found in the Canadian Census of 1881, living with William and Mary Murray and their 3 unmarried children, he is 14 years old. He marries Jane Grant 6 Oct 1892 in New Glasgow, Pictou Co., NS, they have 10 children: Mary, Margaret, Ruth, George, Roderick, William, Grace, Andrew, Robert and Pearl. Margaret is my Grandmother. Canadian Census' 1901 and 1911 show him as Gabril E. Murray and Gabriel Evens, respectively. His marriage record shows him as Gabriel Evans, his death certificate shows his as George Evans Murray, sometime during his life he decided to take his Canadian family's name, whether he just assume the name or had it legally changed I do not know, all I know is that all his children's records found online at the NS Gouv are shown as Murray and that was my Grandmother's maiden name.

As recorded on his death certificate his parents were Gabriel Evans and Rachael Wright, both of Liverpool, England.
