NotesIt is told that Fred changed his name to Thompson after his sister Annie married Carl Thompson.
Apparently Annie went to New Jersey area in the early 1920's to visit Fred. He was married to Rose.
In 1922, Fred and Rose had a daughter whom they named Rose Annie (Thompson)
We know nothing more beyond this time. We have heard that Fred's wife Rose was French and they might have moved to France. My mother Nellie remembers Billy Myhill (Fred and Annie's half brother in England) telling her that Rose's father had a factory in France and Fred went there to run it. My Mother Nellie says my dad, Lawrence, told her that he used to sometimes write to his Aunt Rose in French. Unfortunately that's all we know.

When I researched Annie with Barnardos, they would not provide any informaton to me regarding Fred as I was not his next of kin.
We know that he came to Canada in 1902 at age 6, with Annie, and was put on a farm somewhere in the Stratford area. In 1913, Annie named Fred as next of kin on her border crossing record. This indicated that he was still in Stratford. The Barnardo records say that Annie's brother contacted them to advise of her marriage and he was working at the Commercial Hotel in Stratford.

From the Barnardo files in London Eng - info from Valerie Smith: Frederick?s records show that he was with Mr Lundy at Glenallan, Ontario in February 1911 who ?were moving to Brantford in the Spring?. By October 1911 the Lundy's are living in Drayton. (Found the Lundy's in the 1911 census in Drayton {Sylvester and Mahala) - but Fred was not living with them). At some point after February 1911 (unsure at what date) Frederick is living with Mr Hilburn in Bosworth, Ontario. (Found The Hilburns in Township of Marysborough, Wellington County (Lot 18 & 19, Conc 13) in the June 13 - 15, 1911 census. Fred was living with Isaac and Sarah Hilborn and their son Seth (age 22).Fred is shown (on line 38) as a labourer (age 15) from England, immigrating in 1900 - SB 1902. His birthdate is shown as July 1896 - he was actually born on Sept 26, 1895 but would still have been 15 at time of census- Lot 8 Conc 13 Marysborough
I believe Fred lived with the Lundy's in Glenallan in early 1911 and probably earlier.

A postcard sent by Annie to Fred in May 1912 is address to Fred c/o Mr ? in what looks like Tavistock. Was he living there then?????

Sometime after 1913, perhaps 1914, Fred was living at 66 Shakespeare St., Stratford as a boarder with Mrs Bolger.

Summary: Feb 1911 - with Mr Lundy at Glenallan
June 1911 - with Mr Hilburn in Bosworth (Township of Marysborough, Wellington Co)
May 1912 - in Tavistock??
1913 - boarding with Mrs Bolger, 66 Shakespeare St., Stratford

As of today, June 11, 2011 I think I may be on to some new information regarding a Fred Thompson who lived in New York city and died in 1956 - his wife Rosalie who was from France and a daughter Rose Heard. I have yet to be able to definately confirm the connection as this Fred is listed as a US Citizen (might have falsified this info)and also lists his birth as June 24, 1892. He is listed as a Sgt in WW1 enlisting in Dec 1914 and also a registration record for WWII from 1942.

******* July 13, 2011. I have now confirmed that the Fred Thompson that I have located is indeed my great uncle Fred Myhill. He married Rosalie Matricon in France in 1919 at the end of the war and brought her back to the US as a war bride. In finding his daughters birth record I find that they had another child who would have been born in 1920. The daughter Rose that I was aware of was born in Oct 1921 - Rose Annie Thompson. She was born in New Jersey. By 1942 she had married and her name was now Rose Heard. I have sent a money order to Social Security in the US to obtain her SS application card info. Now hoping to find more descendants. *** The SS info has arrived with very little info. The parents names were 'blacked out'

******* Sept 12, 2011. I went into the Trenton NJ archives and am excited to report that I found the birth record of the other child that was mentioned on Rose Annie's birth record - a son, John Frederick Thompson. He was born in June 1920. He would be 91 years old right now.

******* Sept 16, 2011. I have found John, alive and living south of Pittsburg. We have had a phone conversation. BUT, John is not aware of his father's background. He did not know the Myhill name, he was not aware of a Wales connection, did not know about HOME CHILDREN and did not know that his father had even been in Canada. He also did not know that his father had 2 sisters and 3 half brothers - Most of all, he did not know that he had any relatives let alone so many. He had no children of his own and thought he had no relatives either.

******* Nov 21, 2011. After many phone calls since Sept 16, I ventured to Irwin, Pennsylvania today and have now met my long lost cousin John. It was amazing to connect with him and quite emotional. It was quite a shock to him to discover all of this information about his father. He said that his mother always said that his father had had a rough life. She had also mentioned the name Myhill to him but he thought that she didn't know what she was talking about. I also learned that his sister had a daughter born in about 1939. I don't know much more about her yet as John lost contact many years ago.

The search goes on . . . . . .
