Willie did not do very well at first and was determined he would not obey Mrs W. Mr W has ............ ............. him and he is doing fairly well now and begins to take some pleasure in doing what he is told. He seems to have a good home and to be comfortable in it

December 25th

Dear Mrs Wallace

I hope you are quite well as I am myself. I got something from Samdy Claus he gave me a knife and a pair of socks. I am very well please and I am going to school now and we are going to have a new teacher and we got a present for the old teacher and he was very well pleased and we are quite well. I received your parcle and little Willie White bit me twice and the snow all gone now and Sandy had it pretty wet giten round last night. I like working around cow and i got to cards from sandy and i like minding the baby. I had the sore throat ............ go and are there any boys their now. There is now Sunday school in winter only in summer and w libery? in winter and i like the teacher i like working

(I have transcribed the letter as best as I can, I think where he says Sandy that he meant Santa, and there were other sentences which did not quite make complete sense)

June 1894

Willie's eyes have troubled him more or less all year. He has been treated for them by a doctor but is not any better. At times he can hardly see consequently he is unable to do any book work or attend school. Willie has a bad character. Mrs W does not care to trust her little girls with him. He is inclined to be impertinent

October 1894

Returned to the Home and is now (Dec?) in Hospital for his eyes

August 6 1895, with Saml Rathwell, Sweets Corner, Ontario

Willie is giving satisfaction. He is growing strong and has had no trouble with his eyes since going to Mr Rathwell, likes his home, says he has not much to do and gets plenty to eat. Receives $2 a month and school in winter. He was helping draw in wheat when I called. Goes to church and school
