I spent a night in his home and found him comfortably situated and very happy. There are three little girls in the family and no boys but John they are already attached to one another and have many good times together. Mr S says John is doing well and seems anxious to please

John was just going to the village on a message for Mr Shearer so drove with me. Says he likes his home very much and is kindly treated. Learning all kinds of farm work, can manage the horses well. Did not attend school because he did not wish to but will go in the winter. Goes to church and Sunday school. To have wages next year.

John has grown and is strong and healthy, able to plough, ???? and do most farm work. Mr Shearer gives him a good wage says if he went away it would be like losing one of the family. The Methodist Minister boards with Mr S. He has had a very good influence over Jno and been the means of his conversion. Attended school last winter.
July 16 1897, with Andrew L Shearer, Lakehurst, Ontario
John is doing nicely, is honest and truthful. Likes his place and would not care to leave. Mrs Shearer says she would not like to part with him. Works fairly well is sometimes forgetful and slow but is steady. Is getting $3 per month for the year and is well satisfied. Has professed to be a christian for over a year now as delights in attending Church and Sunday school every Sunday
