Notes Sent to Canada aged 11 by Kensington Union with Rev Wallace on 29 March 1893
May 19 1893
Dear Sir
I received the little boy all right, we like him fine, he seems to be a smart little fellow. He is going to start to school next week. I have not received his trunk yet but I think it will turn up all right
Yours truly
W Lyons
.... it seems is content to like his home (was noted below the letter)
July 13 1893, with William Lyons, New Boyne
Joseph is in a clean comfortable home with kind hearted people who are quite as good to him as if he were their own son. He is a terrible little story teller but Mrs L does not doubt but that he will get over it. They are all strongly attached to him and wish him to do well.
September 25 1894, with Wm Lyons, New Boyne
Joe is a bright little fellow, and very much attached to his home. He had a bad habit when he first went to Mrs L but is broken of that now and Mrs L says "he is a model boy"
August 5 1895, with Widow Lyons, New Boyne
Joe is as much attached to his home as ever, he is a bright little fellow, made good progress at school last winter. He has improved and grown well since last visited. Has won the confidence of the clergyman of the parish who thinks he is an extra good boy. Goes to Church and Sunday school regularly.
June 19 1896, with Widow Lyons, New Boyne
I found Joseph finishing up his evenings work, has grown quite a strong lad, attended school all winter and part of spring, made fairly good progress. He has a plot of beans and onions which he means to sell and hopes to make a little money for himself. To be confirmed this summer.
August 5 1897, with Widow Lyons
I did not see Joe, he was with Mrs Lyon's son on the other farm. Mrs L says he is rather untruthful but a good boy, on the whole, is growing nicely and getting on well, useful in many ways on the farm. Goes to school during the Winter months. Is in the 3rd book. Attends church and Sunday school. Mrs L seems very kind.
