Report of Mr. John Smith, Government Immigration Agent at Hamilton, Ontario, as of December 18, 1884.

Christiana Steele, 8. James Meakin, dry goods store, Hamilton.

The child is good, intelligent, and obedient; goes to the public day school and attends the Protestant church and Sunday school.

Since the child was adopted Mrs. Meakin lost her husband, he having died last May.

Christina Steele, aged 8, from parish of Stoke-upon-Trent, placed with Mrs. J. Meakin, dry goods store, 190, James Street, Hamilton, Ontario. This child has been adopted by Mrs. Meakin and has a splendid home; she is being well educated and attends church and Sunday school; she is very quick and intelligent, and is a great deal thought of; she is provided for in the event of the death of Mrs. Meakin.

Caroline (Carrie) Meakin died at the age of 85 on November 17, 1915, of heart failure. She was buried in City Cemetery. Her informant was Miss C. A. Steel, who resided at 317 Herkimer Street, Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada.
