NotesEmily was born in July or August 1858 as per a Notice of Vaccination dated August 10, 1858 directed to her father. It indicates her as being born Emily Bowstock, noting her number of birth registration as 189 in the subdistrict of St. Margaret's Westminster. Records in our possession indicate that her parents were John Bostock and Catherine Fewster who were married at Westminster Chapel on James Street in Westminster, Middlesex on March 30, 1857 (marriage record #64). John Bostock (23 years) was a private soldier at St. George's Barracks, 10 Holland Street, and Catherine Fewster (25 years) was a spinster living on Horseferry Road at the time of their marriage. No parental information is available for John Bostock, but Catherine's father was William Fewster, Labourer. Catherine Fewster was born February 4, 1830 to William and Catherine Fewster and baptized February 28, 1830 in the Parish of St. Margaret's, Westminster, Middlesex. We have no further information available for John or Catherine after their marriage.


On 26th October 1870, Emily Fewster was admitted to Miss Rye's Home for emigration to Canada from St George's Union, her address was given as , Major Taylor, (Queen's Service) Coburgh, Ontario, child now in home (Our Western Home, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, returned for gross immorallity one month after leaving Niagara, in Miss Rye's report

LAC extraction: in 1870, Emma Fewster, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 100 Maria Rye girls and 1 boy, en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, 40 were sent to Saint John, New Brunswick (not ID?d)
